Dr. Joy Sue has special interests in mental health care for children and the elderly as well as in raising awareness of mental illness and its effects in an effort to combat the negative impact of stigma. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of the West Indies Mona Campus in 2002. She then returned to Barbados in 2004 and commenced work at the Psychiatric Hospital. She completed her Doctor of Medicine in Psychiatry at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus in 2009.
Dr. Sue works with the Emergency Operations Center to advise on and coordinate mental health interventions for the nation during the current pandemic. On June 25th 2021, she was appointed to serve on the Mental Health and Wellness Committee of the Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training.
